Correcting an Error

Correcting an error

In Canada recently, President Nelson made this comment about the name of the Church:

“We’re correcting an error that has crept in over the ages.”

When I read that I thought, "Wouldn't it be awesome to correct another error that has crept in?"

This error is the one being taught by intellectuals who claim the prophets are wrong about the New York Cumorah.

Beginning with Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, Church leaders have consistently and persistently taught that the Hill Cumorah is in New York. No member of the Quorum of the Twelve or First Presidency has ever repudiated this teaching.

Nevertheless, certain influential intellectuals have been teaching students at BYU and CES that the prophets are wrong. Instead, they say, there are two Cumorahs: the false one in New York, and the real one somewhere in Mexico. This is the Mesoamerican/two-Cumorahs theory, called M2C.

Many members of the Church have been persuaded by these intellectuals to disbelieve the prophets. How much longer will this error persist?

The M2C intellectuals could easily correct their error, but they don't seem to be inclined to do so.
