Peacemakers in your homes

 In a Father’s Day social media post on Sunday June 15, 2025, President Russel M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints expressed gratitude for peacemakers. 

“I’ve spoken recently about the need for peacemakers. On this Father’s Day I feel gratitude for all the fathers who act as peacemakers in their homes and communities,” President Nelson said. “My own father was an example of this during my childhood. And I have tried my very best to carry over his righteous influence into my own family, which now includes hundreds of people—each of whom I love dearly!”

In his Father’s Day message, President Nelson issued a promise to fathers around the world. 

“Fathers, as you become peacemakers in your homes, you can literally thwart the influence of the adversary,” he said. “As you demonstrate the charity that true followers of Jesus Christ manifest, the Lord will magnify your efforts beyond your loftiest imagination.  

“As you follow the Prince of Peace, you will become His peacemakers.”

“This is the Lord’s house. It is filled with His power,” President Nelson said. “Those who live His higher laws have access to His higher power. God’s power helps us to grow from the trials of life, rather than be defeated by them. God’s power also helps us to withstand temptations with joy in our hearts.”

In addition to President Nelson’s teachings about the power of God conveyed in the house of the Lord, he also talked about the role temples play in helping individuals receive personal revelation.

“This house of the Lord can become a sacred place of revelation for you. You can learn things in the temple that you cannot learn anywhere else on earth,” he said.

That promised blessing of revelation comes with additional benefits of peace and confidence — confidence he also spoke about in his most recent general conference address.

“Because of your worship here, you will be blessed with peace, even in your most turbulent times. You will feel closer to your Heavenly Father and to your Savior, Jesus Christ. You will experience greater spiritual confidence,” he said Sunday at the Syracuse temple.

As examples of the types of revelation that can be received in the temple, President Nelson said: “As you sincerely seek Jesus Christ, you will find Him here, in His holy house. You will feel His mercy — here. You will find answers to your most vexing questions — here. You will better comprehend the joy of His gospel.”

Sister Nelson said being in the temple feels different than any other place on earth because it is the Lord’s house.

“Time in the temple puts everything into an eternal frame,” she said. “What we experience inside the temple is real and really important.”

When you ask God for guidance about decisions in your life—including some important decisions—He may not give you a detailed answer. The truth is that sometimes it doesn’t matter to the Lord what you decide as long as you stay within the fundamental covenants and principles of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. There are times when God has a specific path He wants you to follow. There are also times when He will warn you against certain choices because of dangers you can’t foresee. But then there are times when a question has multiple “right” answers, and you can find joy in any of them as long as you live by God’s eternal truths. You may not see it until much later, but you will look back and know that the Lord never abandoned you, even when He let you make some decisions for yourself. You will see that the dots do connect.

Exactly 25 years ago, on January 1, 2000, the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles published “The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles.” This is the original document: https://ChurchofJesusChrist.org/study/scripturtudy/scriptures/the-living-christ-the-testimony-of-the-apostles…. I am one of four living Apostles who signed my name to this landmark document, along with Presidents Dallin H. Oaks, Henry B. Eyring, and Jeffrey R. Holland. Over the last quarter century this testimony has been read, studied, and even memorized by countless disciples of Jesus Christ. My study of this testimony increases my desire, every day, to be more like Him. As I celebrate my 101st New Year’s Day, I continue to love the opportunity it provides for fresh starts, new perspectives, and new and renewed resolutions. May I extend an invitation to you as you consider what your resolutions will be this year? I invite you to come to the temple as often as your circumstances allow. In the house of the Lord, we focus on Jesus Christ. We learn of Him and His gospel. We make covenants that bind us to Him and to our Heavenly Father. Through these temple experiences and others, we are strengthened to achieve our New Year’s resolutions. My dear friends, may this new year be filled with the light, love, joy, and power of our Savior and Redeemer, who is the Living Christ.
